Get ready to roll with us at Sarnia Rollerskating! We offer a fun and exciting atmosphere for all ages.
Our mission is to continue to organize indoor rollerskating/rollerblading activities to increase awareness and eventually have our own facility , year round to roll on! As a community we can accomplish this!
Our community is continuing to grow on a regular basis.
In order for us to have our own space we need to have the capital available for:
finding the proper space
possible leasehold improvemnents
permits and legal fees
sound system
additional rental skates
utilities and insurance
etc,etc,etc.
Some of the typical options for funding (loans, grants, venture capital etc.) are not as readily available as we would like, since we are a start-up with no collateral available.
However there are other options available with the help and support of the local (rollerskating) community. I have learned from the basic research I have done (it is an on going process) that we can do various forms of community fundraising as a group to raise some or all the capital required. A couple of options that I believe would work are crowdfunding and a consumer Co-op business model. This allows a smaller dollar investment from a larger group or crowd to raise the required capital. Done properly through legal government processes this would result in a community owned entity. Meaning, that all participants/members would be considered owners and would have a say in how the business is run along with participating in profit sharing/patronage dividends. This is a very basic description of how it would work. There is a legal process involved to set this up properly. We would like to start this process to get the ball rollin' (pun intended).
The first step in this process is to form a small group of seriously interested participants to discuss the feasibility of the project and to start the process of incorporating for government compliance. There is no cost/investment at this point other than time invested in a few meetings. We would like to use the SKOOL community platform (see below) to provide some education on "What is a Co-op?" and How does crowdfunding work etc., etc. So, if you are interested in learning more about this process PLEASE follow the link below to join the SKOOL communnity.
This is for people/skaters who are SERIOUSLY interested in seeing a full time rink in Sarnia/Lambton area.
This platform works very similarly to FB & IG only with no ads and less noise. They do not use algorithms so we will have direct interaction with all members rather than a select few like FB & IG do now with their controlled algorithms.
The SKOOL platform has a few unique features that allow us to monitor usage and award points for participation. We can recognize members for their interaction with each other and their regular and consistent support for the community. We hope to develop a reward program for participation as the community develops. Your feed back is always welcome.
